Bulletin (Colorado Agricultural Experiment Station); 100. [series]. / "Per Axel Rydberg (1860–1931) was a Swedish-born American botanist who made significant contributions to the understanding of North American flora. He is known for his extensive fieldwork and his systematic classification of plants. Rydberg was one of the most productive botanists of his time, describing many new species and several new genera. He was a pioneer in the study of the flora of the Rocky Mountain region and the northern Great Plains. He worked at the New York Botanical Garden for much of his career, where he produced a number of comprehensive works on North American plants. These include the "Flora of the Rocky Mountains and Adjacent Plains" (1917), "Flora of the Prairies and Plains of Central North America" (1932), and several volumes of the "North American Flora" series. Rydberg's work is characterized by his meticulous attention to detail and his emphasis on the morphological characteristics of plants."
